We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance, Inventory & Cost Accounting to oversee and optimize inventory and cost accounting processes across the business. This role encompasses a blend of inventory accounting and cost accounting for oil and re-refining business along with materials & supplies across the environmental divisions.

The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong systems and database knowledge, and a strong foundation in cost accounting. This role is a player/coach position that requires the ability to roll up your sleeves and get involved in resolving issues, all while managing and mentoring a team of cost accountants.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
    • Oversee and manage inventory accounting for oil, re-refined products, environmental supplies, and critical parts across 200+ departments and major facilities in the US and Canada.
    • Ensure accurate and timely recording of inventory transactions, leveraging Oracle ERP (Standards and Perpetual Average) and WIN inventory systems to manage large volumes of transactional data.
    • Develop and maintain cost build-ups for standard costing processes, ensuring accurate product costing and inventory valuation.
    • Monitor and analyze inventory variances, identifying root causes and driving corrective actions to optimize inventory accuracy.
    • Manage the flow of inventory across multiple sites and product categories, ensuring seamless coordination with operational teams.
    • Lead and mentor a team of 3 cost accountants, providing guidance on best practices and ensuring adherence to company policies and accounting standards.
    • Act as a player/coach, directly involved in transaction-level work while empowering the team to meet operational and financial goals.
    • Promote continuous improvement initiatives within the team to streamline processes and enhance accuracy.
    • Design and implement process enhancements to improve the accuracy and efficiency of inventory and cost accounting processes.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and corporate policies while maintaining audit-ready documentation for inventory and cost accounting.
    • Collaborate closely with operations, supply chain, and IT teams to align inventory and cost accounting processes with business objectives.
    • Prepare and deliver financial reports related to inventory and cost accounting to senior management.
    • Use advanced Microsoft Excel techniques (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros) to analyze large datasets and provide actionable insights to drive operational efficiency and cost management.
    • Provide data-driven recommendations to support strategic decision-making and inventory optimization
    • Other duties as assigned.

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related required.
      • 7-10 years of relevant experience.
      • Proven experience in cost accounting & inventory management
      • Expertise in financial software, particularly Oracle ERP
      • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and precision
      • Experience working with offshore teams a plus but not required.
