Description
The information below covers the role requirements, expected

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and
Administration, in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Food
Services, the Food Service Director administers the School Lunch
program to ensure:
Compliance with the appropriate governmental guidelines
The serving of nutritious, appealing and reasonably priced
meals
Maximum participation
Maintaining cost and production control for six (6) elementary
schools, three (3) middle schools and one (1) high school
Responsibilities
Administer, direct and implement all aspects of the food services
program for the Andover Public Schools.
Plan menus and develop standardized recipes in conjunction with the
Assistant Director of Food Services that meet the dual objective of
satisfying state and federal nutrition standards and meet student
food preferences within budgetary limits.
Comply with legislation and guidelines of the National School Lunch
Act and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education, Office of Food and Nutrition Programs.
Interpret federal and state standards and guidelines regarding food
service programs for school administration, staff, students and
public.
Coordinate ordering of food, supplies and equipment
Coordinate labor hours for the food services program including food
counts and production records for daily meal services and all
school and private functions.
Communicate lunch menus with all constituents including students
and families.
Develop and maintain procedures for the proper storage, inventory
and distribution of all food, supplies, equipment and
materials.
Regularly inspect all kitchen and cafeteria facilities to ensure
that the standards of diet, cleanliness, health, and safety are
maintained.
Solicit and utilize feedback from students to help inform meal
selection and improvement.
Complete all required forms and annual reports for the
Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
(DESE) as well as Federal School Lunch Program requirements.
Coordinate professional development for all food service
employees.
Coordinate day to day staffing and scheduling including the hiring
of substitutes.
Recommend to the Director of Human Resources in conjunction with
the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Administration, the
hiring and releasing of cafeteria personnel.
Attend conferences, workshops and seminars to update knowledge of
school food services and maintain awareness of available grants
where appropriate.
Assist principals and teachers in the instructional phases of the
cafeteria program and in the classroom instructional units
pertaining to nutrition.
Financial and Resource Management:
Establish and implement budgeting and financial management systems
consistent with self-operated and funded school nutrition programs
within governments regulations and generally accepted accounting
practices.
Develop, implement, and monitor the annual department budget,
ensuring revenues meet the programs expenditures.
Responsible for overseeing the review of all applications for free
and reduced lunch and for verifying such applications according to
local, state or federal requirements.
Oversee the preparation and verification of all invoices, purchase
orders and government reimbursements.
Prepare and submit annual requirements to the selected purchasing
collaborative for milk, bread, paper and grocery products.
Administer internal accounting controls for the cost-effective
utilization of personnel and food supplies and to properly track
all revenues and expenditures.
Maintain and analyze records to prepare monthly reports of meal
participation and meals per labor-hour.
Prepare monthly profit and loss statements and quarterly balance
sheets.
Responsible for control of cash receipts from food sales by school
and for the deposit of these receipts in the food services
revolving fund.
Oversee the preparation of the department payroll.
Purchase all supplies and equipment necessary to operate each
cafeteria in cooperation with the office of Finance and
Administration.
All other duties as required by the Assistant Superintendent of
Finance and Administration.
Supervision:
Assistant Director of Food Servies, Administrative Assistant,
Operations Managers, Lead Food Service Workers and other food
service support personnel.
Responsible or the coordination, supervision and evaluation of all
cafeteria staff.
Qualifications
Associate's degree or higher in food service management, nutrition
or related fields: certified or certifiable a Food Service Director
in Massachusetts; a minimum five (5) to seven (7) years in food
service administration,
Demonstrated success directing food services management in a
school, hospital or business.
Knowledge of State and Federal fiscal regulations on nutrition and
balanced diets.
Knowledge of State and Federal fiscal requirements, form processing
and overall guidelines of the National School Lunch Program and the
Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education,
Office of Food and Nutrition Programs.
Experience supervising staff.
Supplemental Information
Salary: Negotiable based upon experience with competitive benefit
package
Work Year: 12-month position
Start Date : 5/1/2025. Negotiable depending on the candidate
needs.
