ASSISTANT DEAN, Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation SciencesCategoryJob LocationBOSTON, MA, United StatesTracking Code24500044580116Posted Date1/16/2025Salary GradeGrade 53Position TypeFull-Time/RegularOur MissionWe in Boston University Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) harness the power of philanthropy to make an excellent education accessible and welcoming to all, and to advance BU's global leadership in research, scholarship, artistic creation, and professional practice.Now, our Schools-based development team in Sargent College is looking for an Assistant Dean who will oversee the fund-raising activities for the college.Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Boston UniversityAs one of the country's leading schools of health and rehabilitation sciences, Sargent takes a deliberately interdisciplinary approach to house all our clinical programs - Health Sciences, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology - under one roof; this environment reflects the future of health care.Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, School Development, the Assistant Dean for Development & Alumni Relations at Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is chiefly responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospects to secure major and principal gifts. Working with the Dean of Sargent College, the Vice President for Development, the Associate Vice President, School Development (AVP), the Assistant Vice President, School Development, the Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) staff, and volunteers, the Assistant Dean will create, plan, advance and implement a wide range of fund-raising activities, strategies, programs, and priorities in support of Sargent College's Strategic Plan.Responsibilities:

  • Actively maintain a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects and cultivate, solicit, and steward them on behalf of Sargent.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives in accordance with the University's and the College's strategic priorities.
  • Work directly with the Dean and the College's boards to advance the mission of Sargent College.
  • Initiate cultivation opportunities to identify new donors within the grateful patient populations of Sargent's clinical centers.
  • Serve as the Sargent College information resource for Development and Alumni Relations.
  • Serve as a member of Sargent College's senior leadership team representing DAR.
  • Supervise the office, budget, and fulfill administrative duties as required.Required Skills
    • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience
      • Individuals with a master's degree and eight years of experience will be considered as well
      • Strong development credentials including proven track record of building and developing a high-level portfolio
      • Outstanding and successful experience as a fundraiser
      • Effective experience in enlisting and interacting with senior level leadership volunteers and committees
      • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
      • Superb judgment and the sensibility to adjudicate wisely among competing priorities
      • A disposition to listen and circulate widely
      • Exceptional reasoning, problem-solving and analytical skills
      • Superb organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
      • Ability to work independently as well collaboratively with team members
      • Energy and stamina, self-confidence and humility, a strong sense of purpose
