Network Director of Academics, Math (.6 FTE)UP Education Network
is a non-profit school success organization that addresses
inequities in public school systems. UP provides differentiated
support to historically under-resourced schools through a
partnership with districts and the state.Since opening its doors in
2010, UP Education Network has focused on taking the
lowest-performing schools in Massachusetts and transforming those
schools into exceptional learning environments. We manage two
campuses in Dorchester, serving over 1,300 students in Boston
Public Schools (BPS) from grades Pre-K through 8th. Our schools
operate with charter-like autonomy while our network provides
comprehensive support and management that builds capacity for
schools to focus deeply on students.Role:The Network Director of
Academics, Math will oversee the integration of math curriculum,
assessments processes, and structures to establish the vision for
excellent math instruction across the network. In addition, the
Network Director of Academics, Math will coach the Math Excellence
cohort, a small group of excellent math teachers that exemplify our
vision for effective math instruction. The Network Director of
Academics, Math will work closely with the UP Education Network's
Academic Team, all Principals, and Deans of Curriculum and
Instruction to develop, integrate, evaluate, and improve our
mathematics programming. The Network Director of Academics, Math is
a .6 position (3 days a week) and will report to the Managing
Director of Academics and contribute as a full member of the
Academic Team.Specific Responsibilities:
- Serve as the network expert on math programming, ensuring math
vision is clear, codified, and living out in math classrooms,
including
- Developing and delivering professional development and program
resources to support the implementation of our math vision and
common approaches, practices and materials;
- Conducting instructional rounds to assess quality of
instruction relative to vision and creating action plans that
quickly improve instruction.
- Coach Deans of Curriculum and Instruction to directly improve
their coaching, vision, team leadership, etc. to ensure excellence
in math programming at their schools.
- Monitor and assess the quality of math programming to refine
elements as necessary, including:
- Regularly monitoring student assessment data to identify
highest performing teachers;
- Studying these teachers to identify core program elements
needed to create a best-in-class math program and trending areas
for growth;
- Collaborating with the Network Academic Team and school
leadership teams to design high quality data analysis and usage
trainings, and support school staff in conducting effective "data
days."
- Develop & coach Math Excellence Teacher Cohort, a small group
of excellent teachers who with coaching and professional
development exemplify our math approach in action.
- Participate as a member of the Academic Team, including the
following responsibilities:
- Contributing to meetings by bringing items to the team for
consideration and helping to address items;
- Working collaboratively with other Academic Team members to
ensure consistency of messaging and expectations across content
areas;
- Working collaboratively with other Academic Team members to
ensure our programming is complete and comprehensive enough to put
us on the path to achieve our mission;
- Strategic planning;
- Providing support to academic leaders to help solve
problems.
- Work on other mathematical projects as established by the
Managing Director of Academics.Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree is required (master's degree is
preferred);
- Current authorization to work in the United States - A
