Assistant Area Director (250000VU)DescriptionThe Department of
Developmental Services (DDS) is excited to offer a career growth
opportunity to a motivated and talented individual for the
Assistant Area Director (AAD) located at the Greater Boston Area
Office. The AAD supports the Area Director and Deputy Area Director
in the management of all administrative, clinical, programmatic,
and budgetary operations of the Area Office. As a member of the
Area Management Team, the AAD works with area staff and providers
to develop new residential, day and support programs, and to shape
and monitor existing programs to better meet individuals'
needs.Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and
are not all inclusive)
- Act as a liaison to sister state agencies, community
representatives, and DDS staff outside the area.
- Participates in budget planning and contracting activities with
the Area Director and support staff, including assisting with
needed contract changes throughout the fiscal year and working with
the Regional Contracts Office.
- The AAD will take the lead with the Area Director's support in
managing the Family Support Services, Participant Directed
Programs, and 688 process.
- Responsible for directly supervising a team of staff and will
have direct responsibility for completing performance evaluations,
and ensuring the work environment is maintained and consistent with
negotiated labor contracts and EOHHS policy.
- The candidate should have an understanding of the Federal and
Community Based Services Waiver and the documentation required to
complete enrollment in a timely manner to maximize revenue.
- The AAD should have knowledge of Self-Directed Services, Agency
with Choice, and traditional models of service delivery.
- The AAD should have knowledge of the Department's Individual
Service Plan process and requirements and will support the process
for reviewing and approving the ISPs completed in the Area
Office.
- The AAD should be able to assess risk and make recommendations
regarding Area Risk Review, managing crisis situations, support
clinical issues, and skills to work with staff to resolve
conflict.
- The AAD will have on-call responsibilities on a rotating
schedule.
- The AAD provides indirect supervision to all area staff and is
an active participant in the day-to-day functions of the Area

REQUIREMENTS:Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of
full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative,
supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration,
business management, public administration, public management,
clinical administration, or clinical management of which (B) at
least one (1) year must have been in a project management,
supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent
combination of the required experience and substitutions
below.Substitutions:
- A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted
for one (1) year of the required (A) experience.
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for
two (2) years of the required (A) experience.
- A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for
three (3) years of the required (A) experience.
- A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for
four (4) years of the required (A) experience.Salary placement is
determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's
years of directly related experience and education, and alignment
with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human
Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit
positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary
provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining
agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary
