Hardware Engineering group, you'll be operating on a global scale
in a newly developed team within the Play Engineering organization
in Product Innovation and Design at the LEGO Group in Boston!Core
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical leader for a small, globally
distributed team of embedded firmware engineers for highly
optimized low-level microelectronics and work together to integrate
them into complex mechatronic systems.
- Work with technical program management and product management
to refine priorities, make and track execution plans, and delegate
tasks to firmware engineers.
- Participate in system-level design, proof of concept creation,
product and platform development execution, technical
documentation, and testing across the entire product life
cycle.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team, ensuring
high standards of coding, design practices and architecture are
maintained, and world class products are built.
- Work with a distributed team of technical staff spanning
multiple Play Engineering functions and strategic external partners
to meet global regulatory and safety requirements and adhere to our
highest quality standards here at the LEGO Group.
- Lead by example by demonstrating excellence in abstract problem
solving, firmware engineering, teamwork, innovation, risk
management/mitigation, and delivery execution.
- Collaborate with other Embedded Processing team members from
Boston, Denmark, and Singapore to support our continuing
improvement efforts and initiatives as part of our commitment to
being a best-in-class firmware engineering team.
- Contribute to engineering initiatives to continuously improve
our way of working, adoption of new tools, technologies, and
methodologies for firmware development.Do your part in our team
succeedingThe Senior Staff Engineer, Embedded Firmware plays an
important individual contributor role on our Embedded Processing
team in our Hardware Engineering group. This group operates on a
global scale within the Play Engineering organization in Product
Innovation and Design at the LEGO Group. The role is based in
Boston, where LEGO Play Engineering is expanding our global
footprint to help advance groundbreaking innovations that will
redefine the future of play for the builders of tomorrow.Do you
have what it takes?
- A builder with passion for creatively using technology as a
vehicle to deliver truly awesome play experiences to children
around the world.
- Significant experience in Embedded Engineering roles that
involve low-level firmware development from idea stage to mass
production on projects involving robotics/mechatronics,
microelectronics, complex systems, or other similar domains.
- Experience in leading modern high-volume, real-time combined
hardware/software system development in relevant markets (e.g.
consumer electronics, robotics, medical device, automotive, or
similar).
- Expert proficiency of embedded C and experience with desktop
Python.
- Hands-on experience with an embedded real-time operating system
such as FreeRTOS.
- Expert in low-power microcontroller architecture, operation,
peripherals (UART, PWM, I2C, etc.), drivers, optimization
techniques, and firmware development workflow.
- Experience with the git revision control system and CI/CD
techniques.
- Experience with lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes and
protocol analyzers.
- Demonstrated expertise in navigating and making smart decisions
pertaining to embedded system-related interdependencies and
trade-offs.
- Evidence of strong capabilities in creative technical problem
solving in modern embedded systems, coupled with well-balanced
people skills.
- Track record of strong written and verbal communications
skills.
- Ability to travel internationally as necessary, roughly 20-30
days per year as part of our distributed team.New Location
UpdateThis position will initially be based at our LEGO office
either at Boylston St or St. James St, Back Bay, Boston before
moving to a new central Boston office location by the end of 2026.

$124,700 - $187,000 based on anticipated responsibilities, market
benchmarks, and organizational constraints. The LEGO Group

internal equity, and other considerations permitted by law. The
comprehensive remuneration details, inclusive of benefits, will be
