(tenure-stream) at Simmons University SLISSimmons University's
School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) seeks a dedicated
scholar and teacher to fill an Assistant Professor faculty position
(tenure track) to start in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026. Applicants
should be able to teach in our Archives Management and Cultural
Heritage Informatics concentrations online and on campus in Boston.
We are particularly seeking applications from candidates with
research interests in the following areas:
- Principles, practices, and emerging technologies used in the
acquisition, organization, and preservation of archival
materials;
- Strategies for ensuring long-term access to digital assets,
including automatic preservation workflows, and managing
born-digital and digitized collections;
- Collaborative archival practices and community-driven archiving
to strengthen the preservation, accessibility, and interpretation
of cultural heritage materials;
- Metadata standards, digital curation, and innovative strategies
for preserving and providing access to visual collections;
- Integration of AI, machine learning, and computational methods
to analyze, curate, and interpret digital text, images, and other
cultural artifacts.Candidates will be expected to teach, conduct
research, contribute to curriculum development, and provide service
to the School, the University, and the information professions.
Experience designing and delivering online courses in an
asynchronous environment is highly desirable, as is the
availability to teach in our face-to-face program. Opportunities to
teach include master's and doctoral-level courses face-to-face in
Boston and at the SLIS West program in Greenfield,
Massachusetts.Applicants must hold or expect to complete a doctoral
degree in library and information science, information studies, or
an appropriately related field, ideally by June 30, 2025. Students
in the final stages of their dissertation research will also be
considered. We seek colleagues who can demonstrate excellence in
teaching, have a viable research agenda, and show the potential for
leadership in scholarship and professional service. All qualified
