Job Description:
Applying budgeting and pricing analysis techniques, maintains
the soundness of the organization’s revenue stream. Develops
pricing methodologies based on actuarially sound pricing and
underwriting principles. Analyzes insurance risk pool and identifies trends
and potential corrective measures to ensure a sustainable cost curve
and long-term viability as a health care insurer. Develops rating
memoranda for all Commercial products, rating territories, and specific
blocks of business in markets. Reviews and interprets methods and rating
formulas for employer and group rate development. Prices requests for
non- standard benefits packages Within each market team, develops and
files quarterly rates, monitors and reports on experience, develops
models, pricing benefit plans, and provides “ad hoc” analytics in
support of market strategy. Works with Actuarial Department on forecasting,
trend development, and rate models. Adjusts models and reports
according to expected impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Performs
rate development, including developing models, reviewing,
summarizing, and communicating results, and anticipating potential issues.
Prepares rate filings and responds to queries from the Division of Insurance
(DOI). Performs product pricing and analysis in support of
strategic initiatives, prepares pricing new plans and new mandates,
Actuarial Value certifications, and Minimum Value calculations. Develops
input for forecast models and performs trend analysis. Provides
guidance and training, reviews work, and supports the growth of junior
Analysts. Applies knowledge of the new ACA regulations, responds to
changes in the regulations, and monitors mandates and other issues that
could impact rate development. Analyzes model pricing impact of
limited networks, tiered products, and ACA compliant products. Eduvcation & Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business
Administration, Mathematics, Management Information Systems or related field
(willing to accept foreign education equivalent) as well as 3 years of
experience providing actuarial forecasting experience for the health care
industry or health care benefits or, alternatively, a Master's degree and
1 year of experience as noted above. Must also have passed at least
three examinations in the Society of Actuaries exam series. Also requires: (1) Demonstrated expertise applying actuarial, underwriting,
and financial principles within the Health Care market; (2) Demonstrated expertise utilizing Excel pivot tables,
advanced knowledge of Excel functions, basic VBA and macro editing; (3) Demonstrated expertise utilizing Access, including query
design using linked tables, expressions, and parameters; and, (4) Demonstrated expertise utilizing SAS/SQL, including
