Job Description:
Senior Associate for Charles River Associates in Boston, MA to
perform and direct economic modeling and econometric analysis in support of
expert analysis in antitrust, intellectual property, breach of
contract, and other litigation and arbitration matters. Independently
identify/design analytic tasks and contribute to the development of overall analytic
framework for projects that involve analysis of straightforward problems.
Contribute to design and conduct project work including working with clients
to procure data and define analysis scope. Interface with client
representatives to communicate developments and present results. Develop
statistical analysis programs in Stata or SAS and perform econometric analysis to
model sales or prices in the absence of accused conduct. Quantify and predict
likely market effects from accused firm conduct. Develop models of
individual firm behavior under different assumptions about market structure to
simulate effects of changes in market structure or firm conduct. Oversee
small projects or parts of larger projects. Conceptualize and analyze
issues relevant for the project. Provide training and technical
supervision to junior staff in Stata or SAS programming, data management and
statistical analysis methods. Oversee econometric analyses and theoretical
modeling of antitrust, intellectual property, and other issues in litigation
or arbitration, including reviewing analyses for quality control.
Prepare technical documentation of econometric and other quantitative
analyses. Draft reports or presentations including descriptions of
analyses, methodologies, and results that involve substantial creativity
in analysis or presentation and require minimal revision. Contribute to
business development efforts and draft client proposals for providing
consulting services. Oversee integration of inputs for reports or
presentations that involve complex issues. Evaluate project assignments and
individual skills to orchestrate project staffing effectively, providing ongoing
coaching and mentoring to team members. Handle complex assignments with
indirect supervision with latitude for independent action and
decision-making. Oversee project budgets and client invoicing. Position directly
supervises two employees. Requires Ph.D. degree in economics or closely
related quantitative field (will accept foreign education equivalent).
Also requires: demonstrated expertise (DE) applying theoretical
economic concepts derived from industrial organization and applied
microeconomics and using quantitative methods to assess market dynamics, firm
behavior, and technological innovation with specific reference to the
pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors; DE utilizing Stata to clean, build,
and analyze complex data sets, including proprietary data for pharmaceutical
and/or biotechnology products; DE utilizing Stata and MATLAB to
formulate rigorous mathematical and economic models of pricing, profitability, and
welfare with specific reference to the biopharmaceutical industry; and
DE writing papers and defending presented results to convey complex
economic structures, including descriptions of actual and potential
market outcomes and results of qualitative (i.e., theoretical) and quantitative
(i.e., econometric) analyses with specific reference to the
biopharmaceutical industry. Skills may gained during Ph.D. program. Position
